University Archives

The University Archives has responsibility for the documentation of Franklin Pierce University's policies, programs, places, and people. The University Archives collects a variety of formats of recording information in this endeavor. The formats may include University publications, reports, office files, committee minutes, rosters, audiotapes, CDs, and photographs.

In 2003/04, a chronology was developed to highlight major events in the history of the University.

In 2004/05, the emphasis was on developing and cataloging additional finding aids and managing a university oral history project. Although the department is currently unstaffed, the Library is committed to the long-term development of this critical resource.

Short-term funding has allowed for creation of policies for collection and use of records of enduring value documenting the academic, administrative, fiscal, and legal activities of the institution. Offices with records of enduring value to the University are invited to contact the Director of Library Services for additional information about transferring the University resources to the Archives.

Existing holdings are identified in the online catalog. As additional holdings are collected, processed, and cataloged, the information will be added to the online catalog.

Use of holdings is on an appointment basis at this time. Since most of these resources are unique and cannot be replaced, the holdings are non-circulating and are available only in the Archives reading room. Please contact Melissa Stearns, Technical Services Librarian, at x4143 to ask a research question or to make an appointment to use the resources of the University Archives.
