Logging in to Franklin Pierce University Library Databases
Access to FPU Library’s subscription databases is limited to current FPU faculty, staff, and students. Users accessing databases from off-campus will be asked to provide a login and password; each campus and program has its own login and password for general use. Faculty, staff, and students with FPU network logins should use that login and password to access the databases. The password for the campus and program logins is changed once a year in the summer. If you are having problems it is important to verify that you are using the current password.
You can obtain your username and password by calling your campus offices.
Troubleshooting Database Access
A user has the correct login information but the login doesn’t work:
Three possibilities:
- The login being used is incorrect. Check with the GPS campus office for the correct login.
- The login has been locked out by someone typing it incorrectly multiple times. Try again in 15 minutes.
- There is a network issue that is preventing login. Call the IT Help Desk at 603-899-1110.
A student is attempting to login to FPU library databases while at work and the login is not allowing access:
In the case of corporate firewalls, students have a couple of options: They can do their research on a non-workplace computer or they can ask their IT department at work to open up the firewall a bit to be able to have access to library website. The students should ask their workplace network administrators to open up ports 2048 through 2148 so that the students can get to the licensed databases we provide. That is a network issue at their workplace and the network administrator may or may not be willing to do that.
A student might have a restrictive personal firewall or may need to clear her/his cache or history in the internet browser. Students may need to check their security settings.
Interlibrary Loan
If your research takes you further afield, Franklin Pierce University Library is a member of a worldwide Interlibrary Loan borrowing system. Interlibrary Loan Requests can be for any books or articles not owned by our Library. To request material you may email a complete citation to library1@franklinpierce.edu, phone us (603-899-4140), or fill out on online form (available in some databases only). The library will make every effort to obtain a copy of the material requested and send it to your campus.
Although it is not usually the case, students should be aware when requesting materials that the response time may be two weeks or longer. The library will make every attempt to arrange for delivery of materials in a timely fashion. Please request materials early in your research process. If an item is available electronically, we will notify you via email. Generally, there is no charge for materials. When charges are incurred and agreed to, these charges will be passed on to the requestor. If an item we have borrowed from another library is returned late or lost by the user, all associated fees and fines will be charged to the user.
